Activating and Disabling Simpplr Native Video Upload Permissions for Users

This article is in relation to our Simpplr Native Video product. Because of the way the product was built, everyone in your organization will have access to create and upload videos once the feature has been enabled. However, this article explains a workaround that will prevent certain users from being able to create videos as per your org's needs. 

You must have App manager permissions to complete these steps in enabling the workaround. 

Prior to enabling the Simpplr Native Video feature, your instance has certain options for file uploads in the Manage > Application > Setup > Governance.

After enabling Native Video, your file upload permission options change. You'll now see the option to Allow image and video files (home and site feeds, content attachments).

The issue occurs when the first option in this menu is selected before enabling the Video feature; Allow all file types (home and site feeds, content attachments, site files). Because Video is a file type, if this option is selected when Native Video is enabled, all users will be able to access the feature and upload videos. 

If you (as the App manager) select one of the other options, either Allow image files or Disable all file types, End users won't have the ability to upload videos with Native Video.

We recommend before enabling the Native Video feature, heading to your app settings and choosing the option Allow image files (home and site feeds, content attachments), or if you don't want End users to upload any file types, choose Disable all file types. This way, when Native Video is added to your instance, End users won't be able to access it; only App managers and those with designated permissions. 

Disabling all file types will prevent any file type from being uploaded by End users. This includes .pdf attachments, .img files, and .txt files. That's why we recommend choosing Allow image files, because this way End users can still upload normal file types like .pdf or .img. 

You can always change these permissions if you'd like to eventually allow all users to upload videos. 

No matter which option you choose, remember to scroll down and click Save.
