What are tiles?

Tiles are what make up the display of your home and site dashboards on your Simpplr intranet. There are different types of tiles you can add to personalize your dashboards across sites. All tile titles can be searched in the main global search bar.

Mobile-supported tiles

Click on the icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the Dashboard to bring up a list of the tiles that you can add to your Dashboard. Tiles are split into five categories - Content, Sites, Organization, Rich text & links and External. You can change the title of all the tiles.

Content tiles

When adding Content tiles you can choose between a Recommended content, Latest, and Popular tile.

Recommended, Latest, and Popular Content Tiles

Note, the video below does not go into detail on the Recommended content tile, as that has only recently been added in the 23.11 release.

  • Selecting Recommended content tile will show different content to each user depending on a number of factors.
    • Our model bases recommendations on:

      • The content users have engaged with in the past
      • The content viewed by the users with similar profiles
      • Recency of content (latest news are more relevant than old news)
      • Sites and people users are following
      • If the user has engaged with less than 5 content (cold start), the model will provide 10 most popular and recent content to collect more signals
      • Must read content and content on home and site carousel will be prioritized higher (user-curated content)

Note that the algorithm does not recommend the content users have seen before since they are less likely to engage with it again.

      Other factors:

      • Content older than a month is not recommended
      • The model doesn't recommend more than two pieces of content from the same category (diversity)
      • The same content will not be recommended to the same users more than twice in daily/weekly email to avoid spamming (feedback loop)
      • If there is no content to recommend to users, we won't send an email and we will hide "Recommended" tab in feed and tile

Content recommendations are only visible on the home dashboard. They are not relevant to site dashboards, as site dashboards are controlled by Site managers.

  • Selecting a Latest & Popular tile will create a tile with two tabs, one for Latest, which will display the most recently added content, and one for Popular, which will display the most popular content.

  • You can choose whether your tile should include All types of content or solely Pages, Events or Albums.
  • If you select an All Content tile or a Pages tile you can choose whether the tile will display as a Standard tile, which will list the items with a small thumbnail of the Cover Image, or as a Showcase tile, which will display a large preview of the top item, with a list of other items below.
  • If you select an Events tile, you can bring events from your Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar integration to the tile or select events from a certain site on the intranet.

Organizational tiles

Sites & Categories

  • In the Sites tab, you can create a tile showing selected Sites.
  • In the Site Categories tab, you can create a tile showing Site Categories. You can select how many items you want to be displayed from the dropdown menu.

People

  • In the New hires tab, you can create a tile showing the most recent hires in your organization.
  • The Celebrations tile highlights recent and upcoming birthdays and work anniversaries of everyone in the organization or only users you follow. You can also choose to display relevant celebrations to you.
celebration tiles relevant.pngBelow gives you an idea of how relevancy in this case is determined:
    • Relevancy for small to medium sized orgs:
      • Manager > Direct reports > People I follow > Same manager > Division > City
    • Relevancy for large to XL orgs:
      • Manager > Direct reports > People I follow > Same manager
  • The Custom tile allows you to choose individuals you'd like to see in the tile. This is a list of people. One example of using this would be to highlight site or people managers within a certain site.AWS_people_tile.gif

Files

  • Choose between adding a tile showing selected Intranet files or files from a 3rd party file management integration you've connected. You can also add any other external storage option enabled.

Recognition tiles

This tile will only be visible to those who have the Recognition Suite add-on product. In addition to the ways to recognize employees from the feed or Recognition hub, users can also nominate others and hand out recognition through two new tiles added to both Home and Site dashboards.
add

The Recent activity tile allows users to see all relevant award activity from the last 30 days, as well as give recognition directly from the tile.
Give

The Nominate colleagues tile does just that; allows users to nominate colleagues for upcoming recurring awards.
Nominate

The recognition tile has no site awareness, meaning it will display the same data regardless where it is placed (i.e., site dashboard or home dashboard). For each individual user that sees it, they will see recognition that should have some recent relevance to them, like recognition they have received, recognition their team has received (direct reports, people with the same manager, or the team manager), recognition to people in the same department, and recognition to people in the same location.

Rich text & links tiles

Text, HTML & Links

  • Choose between typing and formatting text in the Rich Text tab, or entering any HTML code that you want to be displayed into the HTML tab. You can add up to 20,000 characters in either tab. You can also create a tile to display useful links.

Image & video

  • Choose between creating a tile that displays an image or video file. Once you have chosen the media to display you can choose whether to display a link, title and description.

External tiles

Social campaigns

  • Create a tile displaying the latest social campaigns from your intranet, or custom campaigns you want to select.

Social media & RSS

  • Display a tile showing your org's Facebook page. Copy and paste the Facebook URL to the box and decide whether to show both posts and cover, or just one or the other.
  • Create a tile displaying a Twitter feed. For instructions on embedding a Twitter feed to the tile, click here
  • Create a tile displaying an RSS Feed such as your company’s blog, latest industry news or podcasts from external websites.

Note:

Users must follow these RSS 2.0 or Atom 1.0 standards when utilizing this tile. Simpplr may not support RSS tiles that do not meet these standards.
    • The endpoints should be publicly accessible without any kind of authentication or restriction.

    • The endpoints should be consumable/readable by automated bot readers without any captcha tests or any other similar steps that require human intervention.

App tiles

App tiles allow you to integrate some of your org's most commonly used applications right on the home dashboard of your Simpplr intranet. As of the 24.05 release, Simpplr offers six pre-built integration tiles, including:

  • Salesforce CRM
  • Workday
  • JIRA
  • ServiceNow
  • Google Calendar

Note that Simpplr will not override permissions from any of these applications. In other words, no user will see items they do not have access to. If an intranet user does not use these applications as part of their workflow, they will only see the shell of the tile on the home dashboard, but it will not be populated with any information. If the home dashboard is user controlled, the user can remove any of these tiles if they're not relevant.

Currently, none of these tiles will be customizable beyond the scope of what is in the configuration settings.

For full instructions on setting up and using each app tile, check out this article!

Delete/Edit tiles

You can edit or delete a tile by hovering your mouse over the upper right-hand corner of the tile to make the drop-down arrow appear. Click on the drop-down arrow, then click “Edit” to edit the tile, or “Remove” to remove the tile.
