Simpplr Terminology

Glossary of Simpplr terms and their definitions.

 

Term Definition
Adoption A measurement of how many of your employees are logging into your intranet.
AI/ML Refers to artificial intelligence/machine learning. Feedback loops are used to enhance search, personalization, and other product features.
Album Type of content. A way to aggregate images and/or video. Can be populated by only the author or open for all users to contribute.
Analytics A suite of metrics, benchmarks, and recommendations that helps you understand your intranet's content inventory, interactions, and overall adoption
API An interface through which two apps connect and communicate. Common Simpplr API use cases are integrations, SSO, and data transfer
Approval A site or content manager's authorization of a piece of content to be published to their site
Author The user that creates/publishes a piece of content.
Auto-Governance AI-backed engine that manages the freshness/validity of intranet content. Validation policy can be applied for knowledge content that needs periodical review
Benchmark Measurement of how well your intranet is performing in a specific area in relation to similar peers
Branded Mobile App Paid add-on. Native Android/iOS Simpplr mobile app privately published on Google Play and Apple App Store. Branding is customized according to customer specifications
Branding Refers to customizing an intranet according to an organization's brand. Intranets can be personalized with its own logo, colors, fonts, head, and footer
Breadcrumbs A means of tracking your location in the files hierarchy of a site
Browser Software used to access the internet, and your intranet. Simpplr supports the latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge
Carousel The primary visual component of a dashboard. Displays curated, high-visibility content. Can include internal or external content
Category A means of organizing sites and content. Site categories determine site type (content, location, etc.). Content categories define content type (news, knowledge, etc.)
Comment A user interaction on a piece of content where the user can start or continue a conversation
Content Refers to native intranet content and communications. There are four types of content: Pages, Events, and Albums. Doesn't include metadata, labels, or files
Content Collaboration A workflow that allows multiple authors to create and/or edit the same piece of content
Content Promotion A means of enabling content discovery to ensure it reaches its intended audience. Content can be promoted automatically, or manually by the author
Content Sharing Refers to when a user shares a piece of content with another user on the intranet
Dashboard A visual summary of intranet content. Contains the carousel, tiles, news feed, etc.

Event

A type of content comprising a social event for eligible users, such as webinars and product launches. Users can be invited and can RSVP
Expertise A label users can add to their profile for reference in People search
External URL Search Functionality that leverages Simpplr's search to get results from external URLs
Favorite A means of marking content, feed posts, or files for future reference. Favorites be easily referenced in the favorites menu
Feedback A user's way of giving feedback to the content author
Follower A user interested in a public site. Following a site will provide notifications and personalized content recommendations
Fonts Component of branding. Refers to your intranet's font. You can change your application's fonts using CSS
Header Seen on the top of your intranet's browser or mobile screen in all parts of the application. Grants quick access to global search, user profile, and navigation
Home Feed Your main feed of curated content from all sites of which you're a member or follower
Integration A connection to an external product or service. Simpplr provides over fifty types of no-code integrations: file storage, HRIS, productivity, SSO, knowledge base, etc.
Languages Simpplr supports multiple languages. Navigation, labels, and clickables can be personalized for native language speakers. Doesn't refer to content
Like A user interaction with a piece of content that shows they like or support that content
Localization Functionality that automatically translates the Simpplr app into a select supported language
Logo Main component of branding. Refers to your intranet's logo. Used in the header of the browser and mobile apps, and in all other intranet communications
MDM Mobile Device Management. Recommended for distributing branded or native mobile apps
Member A core user of a site, public or private. Site membership requests must be approved by a site's manager. Site membership will provide all notifications related to the site, and personalized content recommendations
Metric Analytics measurement of your intranet's performance in a specific area
Mobile App Native Android/iOS Simpplr mobile app publicly available on Google Play and Apple App Store
Must-read A page content that requires "have you read this?" acknowledgment from its audience. Admins can view an inventory of read/unread must-read content
Navigation Refers to both app and site navigation. Gives users quick access to different spaces in the app or site
Notification A message that informs the user of relevant content or interactions. Can be informative or actionable
Org Chart A built-in visual representation of your organization's reporting structure
Page Most common type of content. There are two types of pages: knowledge and news. News is time-sensitive and unchanging. Knowledge isn't as time-sensitive, but subject to auto-governance policies on content validation
People All the users that are registered on the intranet
Personalization A means of personalizing content and user experience for each user. Users can personalize their experience by adding or removing dashboard widgets. Content is automatically personalized
Privilege Refers to set privileges around content consumption and creation. Creation privileges exist for newsletters, alerts, and carousel content. Consumption privileges refer to public vs. private content
Profile Contains personal, customizable employee information
Promotion Channel A channel through which a user receives content and/or notifications. Includes Slack, email, SMS, web browser, etc.
Provision A means of synchronizing the creation and deletion of users between Simpplr and another external source, like Workday
Reply A user interaction with a comment where the user can continue the conversation
Role A definition of what a user can and can't do on the intranet. Common roles include: App Manager, Site Manager, and End User
Scheduler Refers to one of two workflows: scheduling content, and scheduling batch jobs. Content schedulers allow for automatically publishing content at a future date. Batch job schedulers let system admins execute batch jobs on a pre-define schedule
Single Sign-on Using a single set of login credentials to log into Simpplr or other systems
Site An architectural component of the intranet that contains a select category of content and social interaction for its intended audience
Site Feed A site-specific feed which contains content posted by members or followers of that site
Site File Site files are found in the Files folder in a site. All of a site's files can be viewed in the Files folder
Smart Feed A dynamic source of personalized content/information, communications, and social activity. Comprises the Home Feed and Site Feed
Smart Search Top-nav search engine that includes results that are curated and federated based on your intranet's content inventory, integrations, etc.
Social Interaction User interactions with content and other users on the intranet. Includes likes, comments, replies, shares, etc.
Subscription Automatic bulk assignment of members and/or followers to a site or list of people
Sync A means of synchronizing data between Simpplr and another external source
Tile/Widget A visual component of dashboards that features important information. Can show dynamic content, such as Latest & Popular, countdown clock, calendars, events, or static content, like URLs and videos
Topic A label users add to content and feed posts for future reference. Content topics influence search results
User Menu Personalized drop-down navigation that grants quick access to different parts of the application based on a user's privileges. Accessible by clicking on your avatar in the top-right of the header
Validation Acknowledgment by a content author that their piece(s) of content are still up-to-date and accurate, per auto-governance policy
