Mobile: In-app promotion

The mobile in-app share feature empowers existing mobile app users to easily invite colleagues to install and use the Simpplr mobile app. This streamlines app distribution and boosts adoption through multiple sharing methods (QR codes, SMS, email, native share).

This feature is for all mobile and frontline users to help their colleagues download mobile the app.

From the side navigation of the mobile app, you'll see a Share app option. From here, you can share the download link via:

  • QR code
  • SMS/email
  • Native share (copy the link and send it through other messaging platforms)

Mobile content promotion via QR code

In addition to the ability to share the mobile app with colleagues, we're also introducing a QR code promotion feature that allows app managers to share content and promote the mobile app by generating QR codes. These codes can be printed on physical materials or shared digitally, enabling frontline employees to scan and instantly access relevant resources or install the app.

This feature is for app managers or promotion managers who wish to promote specific content or mobile app among their frontline employees.

Below are a few benefits of using QR codes for mobile promotion:

Promote content quickly: Generate QR codes for single or multiple pieces of content (page, event, album). Post or print codes anywhere your team needs immediate access like break rooms, kiosks, or training stations.

Simplify mobile app adoption: Direct link to public or unlisted app store listing. If the user already has the app installed, scanning deep-links them to the relevant in-app screen.

Flexible validity & instructions: Set an optional start/end date for each QR code to manage when it’s active. Include brief instructions, disclaimers, or usage tips so employees know exactly what to expect upon scanning.

Easy management & editing: Update or disable QR codes anytime from the Manage → QR codes dashboard. Existing codes can be updated to promote new content without changing the physical copies

How does QR code promotion work?

First, you'll need to enable Content and feature promotion. To do so, as the app manage or user with applicable permissions:

  1. Go to Manage > Application > General. Under Setup select Content and feature promotion.
  1. Optionally, assign roles to let additional users create and manage QR codes. If you want to do this, go to the Manage > Users section and assign them the Promotion manager role.

  1. Next, create your QR code. Navigate to Manage > QR Codes (if enabled).
  2. Select Promote content to pick specific content(s) or Promote mobile app if you want the code to link to the store or app deep link.
  3. Configure validity dates and add instructions if desired.

Promote content from content details. End users will also have an option to Promote content via QR code directly from the content detail page.

However, only users with the app manager or Promotion manager role will be able edit and manage them in the Manage > QR codes section of a piece of content. This will be indicated by the QR code icon

Download or print QR codes

Save the generated QR code image to your device. Print it or embed it in digital channels (email footers, newsletters, etc.) to direct users to the content or app.

Scan & access QR codes

Frontline users simply scan the code with their phone camera or a QR scanner app. If the Simpplr/intranet app is already installed, they’ll jump right into the relevant in-app screen; if not, they’ll see a store link or a mobile web page with instructions.

Best practices for QR code promotion

  • Check your permissions: Ensure you have the right role (App manager or Promotion manager) to create and manage QR codes.
  • Draft a content list: Plan which content you want to promote.
  • Test your code: Scan the code yourself before distributing to make sure it leads to the correct resource or app flow.
  • Display codes where employees gather: High-traffic areas like breakrooms, bulletin boards, or training rooms ensure maximum visibility.
  • Use clear instructions: Add disclaimers or short descriptions so users know what the code links to (“Scan for the latest safety update!”).
  • Set an expiry date: If content is time-sensitive, configure an end date so old codes don’t remain active.

FAQ

Q: Does this replace my existing app store listing?
A: No. In-app share simply directs users to the same store or unlisted download link making the process much faster.

Q: What if my app is privately distributed via MDM/ABM?

A: In-app share is unavailable in that scenario. Private distributions typically rely on company-managed deployment, not public store links.

Q: Do I need special permissions to use in-app mobile promotion?

A: No special role is required to use in-app share.

Q: Can I generate a QR code for a private/MDM-distributed app?

A: Currently, no. Private/MDM apps lack a public link. QR code promotion is best for public or unlisted app distributions.

Q: What if the QR code expires?
A: Users scanning an expired or disabled code will see an “Expired” message instead of the content.

Q: Can I edit a QR code after creating it?
A: Yes, you can update or disable QR codes in Manage > QR codes. Changes apply instantly.

Q: Does it work offline?
A: Users need an internet connection to load content or install the app after scanning. If offline, the code can’t resolve the link.
